These are Vatar's standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) for Lagos Life and the Vatar app (Vatar: Life in Your City). They apply to every player, every part of the game, and the team.
1. Zero Tolerance
We do not allow child sexual abuse and exploitation of any kind. That includes:
- child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form, real or drawn, and any link to it;
- sexualising anyone under 18, including sexual comments, role-play or "jokes";
- grooming: building trust with a child to abuse or exploit them, asking a child for pictures, their age, where they live, or to meet;
- sextortion, and threatening or pressuring a child;
- trafficking or selling children, or arranging to meet a child for sexual purposes; and
- adults pretending to be teens to reach children.
2. How We Prevent It
- Age rules. Lagos Life is for people aged 13 and over. A date of birth is asked when an account is made and can't be changed later; nobody under 13 can make an account.
- A separate teen space. Players aged 13 to 17 play in their own city, with their own database and servers. Adults can't see, find, message or send anything to a teen, and teens can't see adults.
- Private by default for teens. Exact-username search only; location and online status only to contacts; new chats from contacts only; one short text request a day from a stranger, and only from an account at least 3 days old; five new chats a day.
- No photos, no strangers' voices. Nobody can send or post photos in the game. Teens can't use live voice rooms, and their voice notes work only between contacts of 7 days or more who said yes.
- No moving children off the game. Phone numbers, links, emails, @handles and other apps' usernames, even spelled out, are blocked in everything a teen sends or says.
- Moderation. Automatic checks read what's posted in public: anything sexual involving a minor, or that looks like grooming, is removed and opens a report for the team at once. In the teen space every chat goes through the teen filters, and grooming signals in messages limit the sender automatically.
- Closed areas. Teens can't reach betting, the casino, clubs, drinking, dating, crime gameplay, real-money purchases or 18+ places.
- Adult phones. A teen account made on a phone that held an adult account starts limited to contacts for 14 days and goes to the team's queue.
3. How to Report
- In the game: tap ⚑ Report on a player, a chat line or a post. Teens can pick reasons like "I think they're an adult", "Asked me for photos" or "Asked to meet up". Every report also blocks that player.
- Without an account: the report form at lagoslife.app/report.
- By email: support@lagoslife.app, with "Child safety" in the subject.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact the police or your local emergency services first (112 in Nigeria).
4. What We Do
- A report that someone seems to be an adult, asked for pictures or asked to meet limits that account to its existing contacts at once, before anyone reviews it.
- Reports from the teen space go to the team's own teen queue, and the team reviews every report about a child as a priority, looks at what was said, and acts.
- When CSAE is confirmed, we remove the content, close the account for good, keep the evidence securely, and report it to the relevant authorities: the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline and the appropriate Nigerian law enforcement agencies, as the law requires.
- We cooperate with law enforcement and respond to lawful requests for information about CSAE.
5. Compliance
Vatar follows the child-protection laws that apply to it, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, the Child Rights Act, and the rules of the Apple App Store and Google Play. These standards sit beside our Terms of Use, Community Guidelines and Privacy & Cookie Policy, and we update them as the game and the law change.
